Meta Research

At Concordia University, my mentor invited me to help him with a research grant he obtained from Meta (formerly Facebook) to research applications of VR/AR technology. I took up his offer and we started assembling a team of students from Concorida.

While I can’t go into specifics of our research, we spent a lot of time looking for ways to bring the workplace into VR. I spent a lot of time with hand tracking and integrating workplace commodities (such as a computer, keyboard and mouse) into a virtual environment.

In terms of AR technology, we experimented with the NReal AR glasses and Microsoft Hololens to expand upon the ideas that products like the Google Glass outlined. Specifically, I worked on finding ways to enhance reality with recognition algorithms that could provide information about items you were shopping for, what someone was wearing, or even about who a person is. My favorite application was using facial recognition to keep a virtual rolodex of individuals you meet.
